Jot Tech Solutions Inc. is a social-driven CRM mobile application that helps professionals build stronger business relationships rather than accumulate contacts.

We are bridging the gap between professional social platform and CRMs. Traditionally, CRMs have the reputation of being clunky and a steep learning curve. We wanted to create an app that is simple and professionals can use on-the-go.

Due to NDA restrictions, I can not disclose all the details of my contributions

01 PROBLEM SPACE

Identifying the problem

As a startup, We are constantly trying to increase adoption rate. We try to find a solution to target those without the app and show them how the app can benefit their work relationships.

How do we target those with and without the app?

⚡️Problem #1

Solution for targeting those with and without the app
Increasing adoption rate to help boost the app.

⚡️Problem #2

No seamless solution to
integrate non users

Currently, the only way for non users to receive Jot user details is through exporting details to .CSV

⚡️Problem #3

Improve
accessibility

Create a solution for quick exchange of user’s information.

 02 INITIAL RESEARCH/PROBLEM VALIDATION

Understanding the habits of app users

Research shows that users find it extremely frustrating to install a mobile app in order to try a service. 40.1% of users find it extremely frustrating to download an app just to try their service.

The team discussed the idea of using QR codes as an alternative method to exchanging information. I explored the idea of users’ accessibility to internet while using the app. Since the app’s data are dependent on internet, I concluded that it is important to include an offline mode for the QR code to provide users options.

Targeting new users

Based on my research, I concluded that our app needs to…

01 have a seamless integration with non users

02 use the latest technology of QR code which can be used online and offline

03 widen target groups and not restrict features to only Jot users specifically premium users

Introducing the new feature…

Our QR Code feature makes it easy for users to share their details with each other. By simply scanning each other’s QR code, we have found that users are able to exchange information with ease and efficiency.

03 DESIGN PROCESS

Executing the QR code feature

Working with stakeholders and developers, we discussed what was the best way to execute the seamless interaction between users and non users. It was important for everyone to agree on the definite core features while also considering the technical and time limitations during that time.

 04 FINAL DESIGN

A QR code that works both online and offline between users and non users

Our QR Code scanning feature enables users to share info with non app users. This allows users to quickly and easily exchange contact details without the need for any downloads. They also have the option to toggle between online and offline to exchange contact details. Additionally, after enabling offline QR code scanning and sharing information with other users, we found that this increases our adoption rate and widen our targets to non app users.

05 TAKEAWAYS

Things I learned

  1. Increasing adoption is a something that every app struggles with.

After doing many research, there is still no perfect formula to increase adoption. It is a constantly evolving and as a company, we have to keep testing and trying different methods.

  2. Keeping up with the latest technology trends.

QR code became popular again during the pandemic and I discovered that as an app company, we always have to keep up with the latest trends.

  3. Not every good feature have to be a paid feature

I learned that sometimes we have to make features free to gain adoption. This way it can give non premium users a feel for the app.

Results

We saw an 16% of increase in user adoption when we implemented QR code feature. We received great feedback from both users and non users.
